This ride leaves Harrisburg at 9am heading south on US.45 and immediately turns left onto Illinois 145. The Shawnee Hills are visible to your left as you leave Pankyville.
At Mitchellville stay right on Illinois 145 towards Eddyville. This is a very scenic section up and over the top of the Hills. You are cautioned to be alert for deer and equestrian riders crossing the highway.
South of Eddyville turn right onto Illinois 147 towards Vienna. The high knob ahead on the right is the Millstone Bluff archaelogical site administered by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service as part of the Shawnee National Forest.
The Town of Robb was a resettlement town in the great depression of the 1930s.
At Vienna, turn right on Illiniois 146 towards West Vienna. Turn right on 6th street near the top of the hill. Continue north until you see a cemetery, turn left on Buncombe road through the cemetery. This is a winding hilly paved road with several blind spots be alert.
At Bumcombe continue on to the town of Lick Creek. Just before reaching Lick Creek you will see Drapers Bluff on the right, a large prominate flat rocky escarpment high above the valley floor.
At Lick Creek, continue on west towards The town of Cobden. This is orchard
and grape country. At Cobden turn north toward Makanda and Giant City State Park. You will be entering the Park on the west side. This ia a remarkably scenic drive.
